Tell us about the V E.
The V.E. is a chamber orchestra specialized in a quite different repertoire than most chamber orchestras. But to some extend the repertoire is still connected to Vienna, although you might not very often find works by Mozart or Strauss in its program. The Vienna based ensemble is very international and it also has a special focus on diversity.
Tell us about your collaboration with the V E.
We worked together for the first time in July 2018, but we already have a lot of plans for the future!
What does the "city of Vienna" mean for you?
Creativity! Vienna has an enormous art scene no matter what you are looking for, so in addition to the very strong traditions, it also provides a perfect environment for new ideas and unexpected connections.
Does one always have to perform Mozart, Schubert and Brahms in Vienna?
Of course not. Vienna has been home to so many artists, that it's easy to forget even the second most obvious of them. And you can play Schubert everywhere, so why not just play everything in Vienna?
How is life as a young successful musician?
Exciting! My work is my dream and I feel very privileged to have this opportunity! It's probably not the easiest way of life, but for sure it's a very fulfilling one.
Do you play an instrument?
I'm also a pianist and I used to play the horn as well. As a conductor you should know as much as possible about other instruments, so I have also been taking lessons in violin, cello, flute, percussion and singing.
Bernhard Melbye Voss - Interview - August 2018
With which composer would you like to go for a coffee?/ Which composer would you have liked to go for a coffee with?
Clara Schumann. Would be interesting to meet a composer, who definitely had the talent to become a really great composer, but due to the society of that time didn't really have the opportunity to follow up on the promising way she started.
Where would you most like to perform?
It doesn't mean so much to me where. As long as the acoustic is good and the audience is there. I prefer to focus on the music.
With whom would you ideally like to collaborate?
Andras Schiff.
What was your finest moment on stage?
It must have been my graduation concert with RSO in Musikverein! The orchestra was amazing and the hall is just very special. When you turn around to the audience it feels huge, but when you face the orchestra, everything seems so small and intimate that you can only feel very well!
Which work would you like to conduct?
Schumann's "Faust Szenen".
Can music change the world?
I hope so! It can change people and people can change the world, but the music itself will probably never get that recognition of changing anything.
