One of the most opulent of Vienna's jeweled concert salons is the Schlosstheater Schönbrunn, built for Empress Maria Theresa in the palace's Valerie Wing, with glittering chandeliers and a gigantic ceiling fresco.
It opened in 1747 as the imperial court theatre, therefore it is the oldest theatre still in operation in Vienna. Here, Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart conducted their works, and Christoph Willibald Gluck staged his operas
